Our History

A brief history of Mouse House

Mouse House on Dulverton, Rondebosch, was opened by Lisa in July 2008. After running successfully for 5 years Lisa and Bianca opened Mouse House on Salisbury, Kenilworth, in January 2013. Mouse House on Upper Portswood Road, Green Point, opened its doors in January 2019.

We aim to offer the highest quality professional preschools, with strong educational programs, for children from 2 to 5 ½ years of age at our Rondebosch and Kenilworth schools and from 18 months – 4 years old at our Greenpoint school. The company draws on the best features of a range of child development philosophies, including Montessori.

The day is structured, but allows plenty of opportunity for free expression and play. Children are encouraged to explore and attempt new activities in an encouraging, safe and friendly environment. Our children play and learn in small groups, where social skills can be developed, and in one to one sessions with staff. Our classes are kept small with a high child to teacher ratio to ensure the best care for children attending the preschool.

We believe strongly in introducing children to many religions and cultures and place an emphasis on this during our topic planning during the year.

Learning through play

The Owners

Lisa Gersowsky

Lisa Gersowsky

Lisa studied the Montessori teaching method in South Africa at Auburn House School. Once completing her studies she opened and ran a playgroup in Gardens for a working mother. Following this she went to work in England where she gained 13 years of teaching experience working with ages between 2 to 6 years. While there she became Head of a well known Kindergarten at the age of 23. During this time she attended numerous courses and was made Special needs Co-ordinator and Health and Safety Officer. The school achieved the highest Ofsted Inspection results throughout her years there.  (Ofsted is a stringent government body which regulates schools)

She has worked in traditional and Montessori schools over the years and has found a mixture of the two teaching systems a huge benefit to the children thus she was delighted to have the opportunity to start Mouse House on Dulverton in July 2008 using this system of teaching.

Lisa has four children of her own.
